I had to go out and BUY a book because there wasn't 1 on 'snails' at home.
I went to the bookstore, and found 2 so I bought both, since I had to go through so much effort to find it. I didn't check the stories because dear Ammi was with me and she was having fun pulling books out of the shelves and telling me: "Buy this for me, can?", "I like this, you know!".
After I got home and read through it, I was quite disgusted with this particular one. To think it was written by a teacher too!
In short - 2 snail friends went out for a day's out. They heard footsteps coming and they hid in their shells because it was unsafe.
When the danger was over, selfish snail friend decided that he was hungry. He started feeding on the leaves nearby. Silly snail friend was bitten by some fireflies but he didn't know. He told his friend he felt sleepy. Gruesomely, he got stung until he died (see picture below) and his friend has not realised that as he continued to feed on the leaves. g
The fireflies say here: "Come everyone, let's feed!".
The explanation for the book is that it is based on science education. Sorry, but it's pretty gross to me and I felt it is not the best way to bring facts on what 'fireflies feed on' to young children.

The best part? My son came back from school and said: "Mummy, you know the snail book I brought to school? My friends have the same book, know!"
