The New Year

1st - check if you are my 11,oooth visitor. Let me know, I'll owe you a treat! Just a treat for the New Year.

The last time Hubby and I counted down was in 2003. We went to the MOS Countdown at the Expo. Not like we had fun, but well, after that, we didn't have a choice.... we were 'trapped' at home with babies as sleep-deprived parents and the bed was definitely more inviting anytime than trying to go out and struggle to stay awake till 12a.m. to wish each other "Happy New Year!"

This year, we toyed with the idea of going out for the night. Of course, we didn't have concrete plans, God knows what the kids can come up with to foil our plans. I complained I was tired because both of them wet their bed the night before, I had to change them, strip off the bedsheets, etc. We decided to take a nap before we headed out to join friends and colleagues for the night.

So we slept from 10 - 11pm, woke up, changed and headed 1st for Just Beer at Ridgewood Close (that's where that really dark picture was taken). Then we headed towards K-Box at Cineleisure and trust me, both of us were overwhelmed by that! It's like we have not heard loud music and so many people all at one time for a very long time!

Anyway, I wanted to share my 3 solid New Year resolutions. I normally don't make them cos it just gives me pressure to try to keep them:

1. Pick up a new skill - either Photography or Photoshop. Will probably give myself another 4 months to decide but have told Hubby already if my interest for photography remains, he can get me an SLR for birthday. Hee....

2. Shout Less ... at my son - Someone complained I shout too much at him. Someone says it is very traumatising for him. Someone says I should try to shout less at him as it is his developing years and this will affect the moulding of his character. Naturally, the 'Someone' is my husband.

I admit I do shout at Aidan quite a bit. It comes to the point where my mouth has opened, the words have flown out at a loud volume before my brain goes into the 'do-you-need-to-shout' mode.

Maybe I need to attend an Anger Management course. I simply get very exasperated when I call him more than twice and his head/legs/arms do not move to where I want them to. "Aidan, pick up your book/ biscuit/ spoon. Aidan, wear your shoes/ underwear/ pyjamas. Aidan, move away from the TV/ drink your milk/ greet Gong Gong to eat dinner," and I get super irritated when he starts to whine... like RIGHT NOW, where he is roaming around the house whining for his 'lost' Transformer: "Where's my transformer? Where's my transformer? Where's my transformer? Where's my transformer?"

3. Spend Less - I have hit Amazon.com, Gap.com, Esty.com, Fao.com, Ebay.com, Alibris.com way too often. Not to mention the addictive (too easy to shop cos it's local) Singaporemotherhood site. The problem? All the sites mentioned are based in the USA and I have shipped stuff over every other month or so. On off days, I roam the malls near my yoga centre though I must say I buy more useful things, like books from Borders. Now, I not only have to think twice, I have to think thrice or even more before I whip out the credit cards. Amelie and Aidan probably have enough books and clothing to last them for the next 2 years! (I have 6 books waiting for me to read too)

Well, I do have half, a semi-resolution which I may not have the guts to fulfill. I want to pick up Karaoke. Main and sole reason - so that I can sing at times of necessity. I had annual team meetings in October and I was the only local. I was more than happy to bring them around, until they mentioned the word "Karaoke". I froze and turned pale. "You are coming with us, right?" They had said. I told them I can't sing. One of them said: "Come on, no one in the world can't sing!"

Had I not be in the state of panic, I would have said something like "oh yeah, want me to prove you wrong?" but instead, I smiled faintly and immediately planned for an escape path. I simply disappeared when they weren't noticing. Yeah, some host I was but man, I can't speak or present properly in front of a big crowd, let's not talk about holding a microphone and singing into front of them.

So, after that frightening incident, I told myself I have to get over it. Perhaps just practise singing 3 standard songs, at least I will be able to fulfill any social obligations in future.

Shall keep you updated on my resolutions.

Try to stay happy until the next public holiday - Chinese New Year! Woo hoo!!!
